The University of Edinburgh Centre for Research in Digital Education is run by Moray House School of Education and Sport on behalf of the University of Edinburgh. The Data Schools in Education programme team are based within the Centre for Research in Education. The site is built using the central management system WordPress.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

British Sign Language service. contactSCOTLAND-BSL runs a service for British Sign Language users and all of Scotland’s public bodies using video relay. This enables sign language users to contact public bodies and vice versa. The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We will continue to monitor the websites’s accessibility annually and will carry out further accessibility testing if significant changes are made to or if a service user raises an issue. Until we are able to resolve an issue or if we are unable to resolve any issue, we will ensure reasonable adjustments are in place to make sure no user is disadvantaged.

Preparation of this accessibility statement
This website was initially tested during August 2020.
The test was carried out within the Centre for Research in Digital Education using a Chrome browser in combination with the WAVE WebAIM web accessibility evaluation tool. We expect further manual testing of this site by the University of Edinburgh Disability Service when capacity allows. Pages tested include indicative examples of all website page types – home, team, resources, case studies, posts.

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, areas of work identified in 2020 that have yet to be completed will be reviewed in line with University of Edinburgh priority areas of improvement and addressed as soon as capacity allows.
Annual accessibility reviews will include indicative examples of all website page types – home, post, resource, event.
We continue to work with our website support provider (Cazinc) to make accessibility improvements to this website. In 2022, we have improved our H2 headings and changed our link colour (to #CB4E00) to improve our colour contrast.
Ongoing accessibility work will focus on University of Edinburgh priority areas for improvement and those identified through the LittleForest accessibility tool. Current issues will be shown in the section detailing non-accessible content.

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, areas of work identified in 2020/21 that have yet to be completed will be reviewed in line with University of Edinburgh priority areas of improvement and addressed as soon as capacity allows.
We are aware some of the resources we have produced during 2021 are below the level expected. These resources will be improved or replaced by 31 Mar 2022.
December 2020
This site is on a waiting list to be manually tested by the University of Edinburgh Disability Service. Progress made between September and December 2020 against known issues is documented below:

- 1.3.2 – Meaningful Sequence and 2.4.3 – Focus Order We have changed the way we produce PDFs to ensure that they are as accessible as we can make them. All downloadable elements (PDF, Word, PPT) acknowledge alternative options can be made available.
- 1.4.5 – Images of Text Work is ongoing in this area. We have produced a checklist for staff producing and publishing resources to ensure appropriate descriptions of complex images are included. Existing resources (published on or after 23 Sept 2020) will be checked by Dec 2021.
- 1.2.2. Captions Prerecord and 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded) All videos (including those pre-recorded) presented now include captions.
- 1.4.1 Use of Color and 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) We have altered colours to comply with the 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) requirement to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Teal text was changed to a slightly darker version (#3A7F83) that passes AA. Hyperlink actions are now underlined in addition to the use of alternate colour. Yellow writing (Teal background) was changed to White in the footer of the website.
- 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) We have revised our publishing process to include appropriate checks for future publishing. Existing resources (published on or after 23 Sept 2020) will be checked by Dec 2021.
- 2.5.3 Label in Name We have worked with our website provider to review a range of elements on our site (detailed below) and conclude they are compliant with Label in Name requirements.
