In January, I travelled to London to present to the Royal Society’s Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education (RS ACME). I talked to them about the new NPA qualification in Data Science. This was of particular interest to schools and organisations involved in teaching A-Level Maths which involved an aspect of studying a dataset and then answering questions on it in the exam. The assessment approach in Scotland seems more flexible for a practical task such as interrogating a dataset.
The presentation was well received and we will be talking more to some of the organisations that were present about how we can do more work together on developing data education in schools.
