What are young people’s views about how computing is taught in Scottish schools? How would they prefer to learn and how could we encourage more young people to study the subject?

Moray House School of Education and Sport is offering a free course on data literacy in the primary classroom. 

There are lots of changes happening in Scottish Education at the moment, including the Scottish Government’s plans to improve the Scottish Tech Ecosystem after the Logan Report. But what are young people’s views about how computing is taught in Scottish schools? How would they prefer to learn and how could we encourage more young people to study the subject?

We're thrilled to have appeared on the BBC news yesterday with our British Sign Language project. The project, initiated by our Director of Curriculum, Kate Farrell and funded by Skills Development Scotland, has brought together colleagues at the University of Edinburgh and tech experts across the UK to develop more than 500 signs covering computer science, cyber security, data science and software development.

The Data Education in Schools team are looking for a Project Officer to join the team. The post is fixed term (2 years) for 35 hours/week.

The Data Education in Schools team have been working with City Fibre to provide a learning resource that will support pupils to develop data science skills in a real world context.

During the academic year 2021/22 Moray House is piloting an exciting new Edinburgh Award for students on Initial Teacher Education programmes and related MSc programmes. This award, the 'Digital and Data Champions in Education' Edinburgh Award, is designed to offer student teachers the opportunities to gain data and digital skills, literacies and pedagogies by engaging with ways to develop, try out and reflect on classroom practices that make use of digital and data approaches.
